In response to operational challenges faced by its fast delivery services in most markets, Turkish rapid commerce platform Getir has made the decision to reduce its global workforce by more than 10%.
The swift delivery company, Getir, has revealed its intentions to lay off a total of 2,500 employees, representing 10.9% of its workforce, as part of its global restructuring initiative.
Getir clarified that it will continue its operations in Turkey, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United States.
The company had previously announced its withdrawal from the Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese markets in an announcement at the end of July.
The number of companies resembling Getir, leading the global fast delivery sector, has surged during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, these same enterprises later suffered setbacks as consumers reverted to in-store shopping.
Meanwhile, confirming the news at Getir, the company issued the following statement:
"We will implement this difficult decision in accordance with our commitment to fairness and equity at Getir, ensuring strict compliance with the laws of the countries we operate in. We extend our gratitude to all our colleagues for their dedicated efforts and significant contributions to our company."
